An Implantable CGM That Measures Directly From The Blood Could Be Coming...

Glucotrack is working on a 3-year CGM implant that measures glucose directly from the blood.

Today’s CGMs measure glucose in the interstitial fluid under your skin—but what if we could measure directly from your bloodstream? That’s the goal of Glucotrack’s new device in development, which could be the first-ever continuous blood glucose monitor, or CBGM.

I sat down with Glucotrack CEO & President, Paul Goode, and Chief Scientific Officer Mark Tapsak, two veterans in the CGM and implantable sensor world—Mark was even part of the early days of Dexcom when sensors were still implantable!

In this episode, we break down how Glucotrack’s technology works and how it aims to solve some of the biggest challenges with today’s CGMs—like accuracy during rapid glucose changes, skin irritation, and adhesive issues. We also explore how a C-BGM could take closed-loop insulin delivery to the next level, and what the implantation process looks like for a device designed to last up to three years.

And if you want more, we covered Medtronic’s history with an implantable glucose sensor—a project ahead of its time that laid groundwork for today’s innovation.
