Beta Bionics has introduced several updates to its iLet Bionic Pancreas in less than two years, from a smaller pump with a color screen to new CGM integrations and an updated follower app. Unlike traditional automated insulin delivery systems that require users to program basal rates, correction factors, and carbohydrate ratios, the iLet is initialized using a person’s weight and learns their insulin needs over time. Users announce meals as usual, more than usual, or less than usual rather than counting carbohydrates.

In this podcast episode, we spoke with Mike Mensinger, Chief Product Officer at Beta Bionics, and discussed the company’s progress, the thinking behind its rapid product updates, and what’s next for the iLet.

The conversation also covers the latest iLet updates, including Libre 3 Plus compatibility and the new Bionic Circle follower app, which allows caregivers to see glucose levels, insulin delivery, and meal announcements. Mike also discusses plans for its Mint tubeless patch pump, the company’s work toward a bi-hormonal system using insulin and glucagon, and the possibility of a fully closed-loop algorithm.
