CamAPS FX is an FDA-cleared automated insulin delivery (AID) system already available across countries in Europe and beyond. Available for people aged two and older—including pregnant users—it pairs with a CGM (FreeStyle Libre 3 or Dexcom G6) and a compatible insulin pump, all managed through a smartphone app.

The system was developed by Dr. Roman Hovorka at Cambridge University after 20 years of research. Already available in 17 countries across Europe, CamAPS FX is now expanding into Canada, New Zealand, and the U.S. As the only FDA-approved AID system for pregnancy, it supports tighter glucose control during one of the most challenging times in diabetes management—helping reduce stress and improve outcomes for both mothers and babies.

That said, there is still no insulin pump home for the algorithm. CamAPS FX is used with the mylife YpsoPump in most instances and that pump is not available in the US—yet. In June 2024, Ypsomed confirmed that its mylife YpsoPump was "undergoing review by the FDA as an interoperable insulin pump."

The app includes flexible features like Ease-Off and Boost modes, giving users more control during workouts, meetings, or unexpected meals. I took a deep dive with Candice Ward, a Training and Outreach Manager at CamDiab, into the evolution of CamAPS FX and its impact on the diabetes community. If you want to hear how this system works in real life, especially during pregnancy, and what comes next — we cover the full story in the latest podcast.
