Modular Medical, the creators of the MODD1 system, have officially commercialized and launched their tubeless insulin pump, called Pivot. Becoming the second fully electronic tubeless pump commercially available in the U.S., after Omnipod.

Pivot uses a two-part design with a removable 3mL reservoir, a disposable battery, and smartphone connectivity. No battery recharging is required, and the pump includes a dedicated bolus button for on-device dosing, similar to those seen on the Tandem Mobi and twiist insulin pumps. It is worth noting that Pivot is not an automated insulin delivery (AID)system and will not connect to a continuous glucose monitor (CGM).

The pump is specifically targeting adults with diabetes on multiple daily injections who have been reluctant to switch due to cost or usability concerns. The initial rollout begins in phases with select high-volume endocrinology practices, expanding into additional markets by late 2026.

Although Pivot and Omnipod are the only tubeless pumps commercially available right now, other companies are working on tubeless options. Recently, MiniMed gave us an exclusive look at their MiniMed Fit tubeless pump. Tandem is also working on a tubeless Mobi, and Beta Bionics is developing Mint.

What are your thoughts on more companies launching tubeless insulin pumps? Will you consider switching your pump?
