When I first heard about the Accu-Chek SmartGuide CGM, I was intrigued by one thing — it doesn’t just track glucose levels, it predicts them. At this year’s ATTD conference, I had the chance to talk with Roche about how they’re using artificial intelligence to bring a new layer of insight to diabetes management.

The SmartGuide CGM stands out because it uses AI-driven predictive algorithms to forecast where your glucose levels are headed — not just where they are. According to Roche, the device can send alerts hours before a high or low occurs, giving you time to take action before you’re out of range. That’s a big deal for anyone who’s experienced the stress of reactive management.

The CGM offers three layers of predictive support: it can indicate hypoglycemia risk within the next 30 minutes, forecast likely glucose changes for up to two hours, and estimate the risk of overnight hypoglycemia. Since nighttime lows are among the biggest concerns for people with diabetes, these alerts aim to reduce anxiety, support better sleep, and give users and caregivers greater peace of mind.

Beyond its predictive capability, the SmartGuide system is designed for simplicity and comfort. The sensor transmits data directly to the SmartGuide app, where you can see your current glucose, trend arrows, and predicted readings — all in one glance. The app’s interface focuses on clarity: color-coded visuals, clean graphs, and smart notifications that make it easier to interpret data without feeling overwhelmed. A new integration with mySugr was also just released, unlocking better ways to share data with healthcare providers, and to integrate the data alongside biometric data from Apple Health and Google Health.

Roche also shared that the SmartGuide platform was built to learn from your data. Over time, it refines its predictions and personalizes alerts based on your patterns — kind of like having an AI assistant that gets better at understanding your body with each wear.

The SmartGuide CGM is officially available in countries throughout Europe and is an exciting display of how far diabetes tech has come. If you want to see how the SmartGuide works, including the predictive alerts in action, check out the full Youtube episode at the top of this page!
