I Thought I Knew My Diabetes—Then I Switched to a Tubed Pump

After three years with Omnipod, a tubed pump taught me something new about tech—and myself

For the past three years, I was all in on Omnipod. It was my first insulin pump—my only pump, actually—and it carried me through the bulk of my post-diagnosis journey. I loved it for its simplicity, for its compatibility with DIY Loop, and for how it let me move through life without constantly being reminded that I was tethered to technology.

Then I decided to switch. Not because Omnipod wasn’t working, but because I wanted to understand the other side of the pump world. I’d never used a tubed pump before, and as someone who shares openly about diabetes technology, I felt like I owed it to myself—and to you—to see what it was like.

So, I gave Tandem Mobi a shot.

What followed was two months of learning, adjusting, fumbling, and discovering things I didn’t expect—not just about the pump, but about myself. This isn’t a review. That’s coming soon. This is the story of what happened when I stepped outside of what was familiar and tried something new.
