Abbott released a new update on October 23 for its FreeStyle Libre 3 and Libre by Abbott apps that addresses both a security vulnerability and an issue causing extended sensor signal loss for some users.
Abbott advises users to update their apps to the latest versions: FreeStyle Libre 3 app should be updated to Version 3.6.10 and the Libre by Abbott app should be Version 1.4.2. Users whose phones have already automatically installed the latest version do not need to take any additional action.
The update follows an earlier app update released on October 15 that was intended to address a security vulnerability. That update could cause incorrect sensor readings, missed alerts, or incorrect alerts. Some users also experienced extended signal loss, in which the sensor disconnected from the app and would not reconnect. The issue affected people using Libre sensors with the mobile apps. Users who rely on a reader or an insulin pump were not affected. Abbott previously said it was working on a fix and notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
As always, pay attention to how you feel. If your symptoms do not match your sensor reading, you suspect a reading is inaccurate, or you experience extended signal loss, confirm your glucose with a fingerstick blood glucose meter before making treatment decisions.
