Tandem Diabetes Care has issued an urgent medical device correction for the Tandem Mobi mobile app on Android devices due to a software issue that can prevent part of an Extended Bolus from being delivered. The issue affects all versions of the Android app but does not affect users of the iOS app.

The problem occurs when an Extended Bolus is programmed and the entered glucose value matches the active target glucose value. Under these circumstances, the “Now” portion of the bolus will not be delivered, although the delayed “Later” dose will still be delivered. Users may receive less insulin than intended.

While the app graph accurately displays the amount of insulin delivered, users may not immediately recognize that the “Now” portion was not delivered. The actual amounts can be checked in the Bolus Card by tapping the bolus drop or in Bolus History.

Tandem has identified the cause of the issue and has advised Android users, via email, to stop using the Extended Bolus feature until a corrective software update is available. The Standard Bolus feature and other available functions of the Tandem Mobi Android app can still be used.

The company is proactively reaching out to customers that use the Tandem Mobi System with the Android mobile app.
