Tandem Diabetes Care has officially launched its highly anticipated integration between the t:slim X2 insulin pump and Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus continuous glucose monitor (CGM) in the United States. The update marks a major step forward for automated insulin delivery (AID) users who prefer Abbott’s CGM platform, expanding choice in a space that has long been dominated by Dexcom integrations.

In the U.S., the updated software is pre-loaded on all new t:slim X2 shipments, meaning new users can start using Libre 3 Plus out of the box. For current users, a software upgrade is available through a remote update for eligible t:slim X2 pumps. Internationally, Tandem plans to begin early-access programs for the integrated technology before the end of the year, with broader commercial rollout planned for 2026.

With the new integration, glucose readings from the Libre 3 Plus sensor are automatically transmitted every minute via Bluetooth to the t:slim X2 pump. Users can view their glucose data directly on the pump screen and within the Tandem t:slim mobile app, enabling real-time glucose monitoring and insulin automation through Tandem’s Control-IQ+ algorithm. This system predicts where glucose is heading and automatically adjusts insulin delivery to help prevent highs and lows.

Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus is currently the smallest CGM on the market, for people two years and older, offering 15-day wear and no fingerstick calibrations. Its compact size and extended wear time aim to reduce user burden while maintaining precision, making it a popular choice among people living with diabetes. We recently reviewed the Libre 3 Plus after using it for one month.

We recently spoke with Tandem on the podcast about upcoming product integrations and the company’s roadmap for connected systems, and this update aligns with its focus on improving user choice within the AID ecosystem. We expect the new intergration to arrive on its smaller Tandem Mobi pump, though no official timeline has been announced.

This integration signals a broader shift in the AID landscape toward interoperable systems, where users can mix and match devices from different manufacturers.
