Beyond familiar systems from companies like MiniMed, Tandem, and Insulet, people across Europe have access to a wide range of insulin pumps and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems that offer features not currently available in the U.S. But access to these systems can vary depending on the country, its reimbursement policies, the healthcare providers, and distributors.

We spoke with Dr. Inge Van Boxelaer, an endocrinologist in Belgium and founder of Diabetotech, to get a closer look at the European insulin pump market. The conversation explores how major U.S. pump companies fit into the European landscape and takes a closer look at lesser-known systems including YpsoPump, Kaleido, Medtrum, Dana-i, and Equil. The discussion also examines some of the unique features offered by these systems, from lower glucose targets and phone-controlled algorithms to advanced exercise settings and options designed to reduce the need for meal bolusing.
