Eversense 365 CGM is an implantable continuous glucose monitor (CGM) designed to last for a year, offering an alternative to disposable sensors that typically need to be replaced every couple of weeks. The sensor is inserted under the skin during a brief procedure and pairs with a removable transmitter that sends glucose readings to a smartphone app. The sensor is currently cleared for use with the twiist pump for automated insulin delivery, but will soon integrate with the iLet insulin pump. Open-source Loop app users can also use Eversense 365 as part of their AID system.

With Eversense 365, users don’t have to replace their CGM sensor every 10-15 days. The system eliminates the worry about running out of sensors, replacing sensors that fail early, or repeatedly going through warm-up periods. The removable transmitter also provides on-body vibration alerts for high and low glucose levels, allowing users to receive notifications without relying on audible phone alarms. However, the system requires regular calibrations, transmitter charging, and adhesive changes.

We spoke with Gary Scheiner, a certified diabetes care and education specialist (CDCES), founder of Integrated Diabetes Services, and contributor to our recurring series, Optimizing Diabetes Tech, about how the system works, its benefits and drawbacks, and how it compares with other CGMs.
