Abbott’s newly cleared Libre Duo will be the world’s first commercially available continuous glucose and ketone monitoring sensor. Libre Duo is expected to launch later this year in specific European markets after receiving CE Mark. There’s still no updates yet on when it will be available in the United States or elsewhere. The sensor allow users to track ketone and glucose levels simultaneously using a sensor that looks and functions much like the Libre 3 Plus.

Currently, ketones are typically measured through blood or urine tests. Thanks to on-body ketone monitoring, Libre Duo could potentially provide earlier warnings of pump failures, illness-related complications, or rising risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)—a dangerous condition caused by high ketone levels when the body lacks insulin.

Abbott’s launch marks an important step toward a future where diabetes technology can offer a broader view of a person’s health beyond glucose alone. Other sensor companies are exploring multianalyte sensing as well, including Dexcom, which has discussed development of a dual glucose-potassium sensor, which it refers to as CPGM.

Our latest video at the top of the article gives an in-depth look at the upcoming Libre Duo. Do you think increased awareness of ketones will be beneficial? Let us know in the comments below!
