Medtronic launched Instinct sensor integration for its MiniMed 780G insulin pump, beginning full U.S. distribution. The pairing brings Abbott’s newest continuous glucose monitor (CGM) technology, also used on the Libre 3 Plus, into the MiniMed ecosystem and marks a notable update to the company’s automated insulin delivery lineup.
Instinct is Abbott’s smallest and thinnest CGM with up to 15 days of wear and a one-hour warm up period. It delivers real time glucose data that the 780G uses to adjust insulin every five minutes. The sensor is designed to be discreet, accurate, and require fewer insertions.
The MiniMed 780G is Medtronic’s most advanced AID system. It uses real time data to reduce highs and lows and lessen the daily workload of diabetes management and supports a 7-day Extended Infusion Set. Instinct joins Simplera Sync and Guardian 4 , growing Medtronic’s sensor portfolio within the same ecosystem.
Medtronic also confirmed progress on its Fit and Flex pumps currently in-development. Flex, a smaller screenless durable pump, is planned for FDA submission by April 2026. Fit, a tubeless patch pump, is targeted for submission in fall 2026.
The company continues to advance its pump and sensor pipeline as planned while the diabetes department works to split from Medtronic by the end of 2026.
