MiniMed, formerly Medtronic, is bringing a brand-new insulin pump to the US market in 2026. The MiniMed Flex is a tubed pump that holds 300 units of insulin and is roughly half the size of the current MiniMed 780G, making it the most compact AID system offered by the company.
Unlike the 780G, Flex has no screen and is controlled entirely through a smartphone app that will work on both Android and iPhone, featuring a clean, minimal design similar to the MiniMed Go app. The pump includes a small number of physical buttons, likely including a bolus button for quick dosing without a phone nearby, along with a status light along the bottom—we are working to confirm if this is the case.

Two continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) will be supported at launch: Simplera Sync and Instinct, which is made by Abbott. Both sensors are approved in the U.S. for users ages 7 and older. The Flex launches with the same SmartGuard algorithm used in the 780G, featuring Meal Detection tech and adjustable glucose targets of 100, 110, and 120 mg/dL. MiniMed is actively working on its next-gen algorithm called Vivera which promises a fully closed-loop approach with bolusing for meals made optional.
One standout feature is the 7-day extended infusion set, putting the Flex ahead of most competing pumps. Rollout is expected to begin in spring 2026 with select MiniMed customers, followed by a full launch this summer.
