MiniMed officially received FDA clearance for the MiniMed Flex, its most compact insulin pump to date and the company's first screenless design. The new system is half the size of the MiniMed 780G and roughly the footprint of two stacked insulin vials.
The pump runs entirely through a smartphone app on iOS and Android. Under the hood, it runs MiniMed's SmartGuard algorithm with Meal Detection technology, the same algorithm behind the 780G. The Flex holds a 300-unit reservoir and works with its extended infusion set which lasts up to seven days.

MiniMed Flex system is a small, screenless, smartphone‑controlled insulin pump paired with a CGM and mobile app to provide connected, automated diabetes management.
At launch, compatible CGMs include the Simplera Sync sensor and the Instinct sensor made from Abbott. The system is cleared for type 1 diabetes in users aged 7 and up, and for insulin-requiring type 2 diabetes in adults 18 and older.
As for availability, MiniMed is rolling things out in stages. A select group of current MiniMed customers will get early access during a customer experience phase this spring, with a full commercial launch planned for the summer.
Looking ahead, MiniMed dropped some big updates last week at the Advanced Technologies & Treatment for Diabetes (ATTD) conference, sharing early feasibility results for its fully closed-loop Vivera algorithm, which is slated to work with the Flex down the road. The company is also developing the MiniMed Fit, a tubeless pump option that signals MiniMed is building out a broader ecosystem for different user preferences.
We’re working to test out the MiniMed Flex as soon as we can get our hands on one, so stay tuned by subscribing to our free newsletter. What do you think of the pump? Let us know in the comments!
