MiniMed announced that Medicare and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries now have access to the MiniMed Flex system, expanding availability of the company’s app-controlled insulin pump to more people living with diabetes. The system is about half the size of the MiniMed 780G insulin pump, but still holds 300 units of insulin. It uses the same SmartGuard technology as the 780G system to automatically adjust insulin delivery every five minutes.

Real-world data presented at the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Scientific Sessions 2026 showed that Medicare beneficiaries using the MiniMed 780G system exceeded ADA-recommended glycemic targets. In terms of continuous glucose monitor compatibility, in the U.S. MiniMed Flex is currently available with the Simplera Sync sensor and is expected to become compatible with Abbott’s Instinct sensor later this summer.

Looking ahead, MiniMed’s first-ever tubeless pump, the MiniMed Fit, is currently in development. This pump will also hold 300 units of insulin, more than any other patch pump on the market. MiniMed Fit will use the same algorithm and fit into the same MiniMed app ecosystem. The company plans for a regulatory submission in fall 2026. MiniMed is also developing Vivera, a fully closed-loop algorithm that would make meal-time announcements optional. There is no news yet on when the algorithm will be available, but the results from the initial feasibility trials are promising.
