MiniMed announced today on their Instagram that shipments of the MiniMed Flex system with the Simplera Sync sensor have officially begun in the United States.
The MiniMed Flex is MiniMed's latest automated insulin delivery system, built around the SmartGuard technology, which adjusts and delivers insulin corrections every five minutes based on continuous glucose monitor readings. The pump is screenless and roughly half the size of the MiniMed 780G. It’s controlled through the MiniMed app on a compatible smartphone and holds up to 300 units of insulin. The system is cleared for type 1 diabetes in people ages 7 and older, and for type 2 diabetes in adults 18 and older.
MiniMed mentioned that for those who have already placed an order, an email notification will go out once the system ships, though an updated prescription and insurance verification are required before orders can be processed. And if you have not yet placed an order, the company is directing people to its website to get started.
We recently had the opportunity to have the MiniMed team join us on the podcast and we got an in-depth look at the Flex system. MiniMed also gave us a preview of the upcoming tubeless pump. There is a lot to cover in that conversation, and the full episode drops Monday. Stay tuned.
Let us know in the comments if you will be ordering the MiniMed Flex!
