Canadian users of the MiniMed 780G system finally have a new sensor option: the MiniMed Symplera Sync continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is coming to Canada this year. The launch marks a meaningful upgrade for Canadians who had previously been limited to the Guardian 4 sensor.

Simplera features a flat, square profile that sits discreetly on the skin without requiring an overpatch, and is approved for wear on the back of the upper arm. The sensor offers a seven-day wear period with an additional one-day grace period, a two-hour warm-up time, and a MARD (accuracy) of 10.2%.

“This license marks an important milestone for the diabetes community in Canada and a meaningful step forward in our mission to make every day a better day for people with diabetes,” said Chet Patel, Senior Business Director, Canada, at MiniMed. “By continuing to evolve the MiniMed 780G system, including the addition of our Simplera Sync sensor and indication for adults 18 and older with Type 2 diabetes, we’re helping simplify the experience and reduce the daily burden of diabetes management. With this design, we’re able to offer the proven benefits of our MiniMed 780G system with a more comfortable wear experience.”

MiniMed also has several exciting products in the pipeline, including MiniMed Fit, its tubeless pump, MiniMed Flex, its new insulin pump, and Vivera, a future closed-loop algorithm. We also expect Abbott’s Instinct CGM to launch in the future, introducing a 15-day wear time, a one-hour warm-up, no calibrations, and the smallest form factor of any CGM.
