Sava Technologies has raised $36 million in Series B funding and signed a European commercialization and distribution agreement with Ascensia Diabetes Care, bringing its needle-free glucose microsensor closer to market. The London-based startup is developing a next-generation continuous glucose monitor (CGM) designed to measure glucose beneath the skin using microsensors that are approximately 10 times shorter than the filaments used in traditional CGMs.

Sava’s technology aims to reduce skin disruption while maintaining access to interstitial fluid for continuous glucose monitoring. Sava plans to conduct a pivotal clinical study and is targeting CE approval for non-adjunctive use within the next 18 to 24 months. Beyond glucose monitoring, Sava is also developing its microsensor platform to measure other biomarkers, potentially expanding its applications to additional areas of health monitoring.

Ascensia served as the exclusive global commercialization partner for Senseonics’ Eversense CGM systems for over 5 years, overseeing sales, marketing, and the U.S. launch of Eversense 365. In January 2026, Senseonics regained full control of commercialization, R&D, and manufacturing.

The partnership with Ascensia will initially focus on commercializing and distributing Sava’s CGM in Europe. Ascensia’s established relationships with healthcare professionals and payers, along with its presence in more than 90 countries, could help Sava reach a broader market once the device receives the necessary regulatory approval.

In the U.S., Biolinq Shine, another needle-free glucose sensor, received FDA clearance for over-the-counter use for people who are not using insulin. It’s clear that the CGM market is moving away from the traditional model with innovations ranging from needle-free sensors to the implantable Eversense 365, Abbott’s ketone-glucose monitoring device Libre Duo, and the upcoming Dexcom G8, which could monitor glucose and potassium levels.
