The Dexcom G7 15-day sensor received Health Canada Authorization, making it available to adults with diabetes. With a 15 day wear time, plus the 12 hours grace period, this is the longest lasting sensor Health Canada has approved for use.
The G7 15-day has an identical form factor to the G7; an all-in-one sensor and transmitter with a round exterior that’s 60% smaller than the G6 sensor. While the 15-day version has a 60 minute warm up period compared to the G7’s 30 minute warm up, the 15-day sensor has improved accuracy. The 15-day sensor has an overall Mean Absolute Relative Difference (MARD) of 8.0% whereas the G7 has a 8.2% MARD.
Dexcom is currently developing the G8 sensor which promises even better accuracy and less outlier readings. This new sensor will have a self-adaptive algorithm, adjusting to each user’s physiology throughout its use. Dexcom announced that 15 day wear time will be the new standard for all future sensors. The G8 is expected to be submitted to the FDA for clearance in 2027, with plans to release it to consumers toward the end of 2027 or beginning of 2028.
