MiniMed Flex is now compatible with the Instinct sensor, expanding the MiniMed automated insulin delivery ecosystem with more continuous glucose monitor (CGM) options. Instinct was produced through MiniMed’s long-term partnership with Abbott and is the company’s smallest and thinnest CGM. The sensor has up to 15 days of wear-time and a one-hour warm up period. It’s powered by the same technology as the Libre 3 Plus and delivers real time glucose data every five minutes, so MiniMed Flex can adjust insulin doses. Flex is an app-controlled, tubed pump with a brand new form factor, but is controlled by the same SmartGuard algorithm as the 780G.
The update comes just a few weeks after MiniMed Flex started shipping to U.S. customers. Current Flex users will need to install an update in order to switch from the Simplera Sync sensor and connect to Instinct. MiniMed has stated that the update is coming within the next month and users will receive a notification via email or text once it is available. MiniMed released an instructional YouTube video walking users through setting up the new CGM.
