Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) have become a crucial part of diabetes management, whether someone uses multiple daily injections or an automated insulin delivery (AID) system. But with several sensors on the market, choosing the right one comes down to more than just accuracy. Wear time, alert settings, and smartphone apps all make a difference in everyday use.
Some apps, like the Dexcom G7, offer more flexible alert settings, predictive low-glucose warnings, whereas the Libre App can deliver detailed insights into glucose patterns and AI-powered meal analysis. Compatibility is another major factor, especially for people using an AID system, since not every CGM works with every insulin pump.
In our latest video, we break down the major CGMs available in the U.S., including the original Dexcom G7 and G7 15 Day, Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus, MiniMed’s Simplera and Instinct sensors, and Senseonics’ Eversense 365 implantable CGM. We also discuss the new sensors expected in 2027, including Abbott’s Libre Duo and Dexcom G8, which both expand continuous monitoring beyond glucose to include other important health measurements.
